Common questions
What is expected value (EV) per dollar?↓
Expected value per dollar (EV/$) is the average return you can statistically expect from each dollar spent on a scratch-off, based on the prizes still unclaimed. An EV/$ of 0.72 means you'll get back about $0.72 on average for every $1 wagered. Values above 1.00 mean the math is statistically in your favor.
How often is the data updated?↓
Our autonomous multi-state surveillance system scans official state lottery data feeds daily, typically before 6 AM ET. Each game's expected value is recalculated after every scan.
Are scratch-off odds public information?↓
Yes. Most US state lotteries are required by law to publish both the overall odds and the remaining-prize counts for every active scratch-off game. We catalogue these daily.
Why is EV/$ sometimes unavailable?↓
Some states publish prize tables but not overall odds or total ticket counts. Without the total-remaining-tickets figure our quantitative models require as a key input, we can't produce a reliable EV estimate. Those games show — instead of a number.
